Sponsorship Program

In cooperation with the Lions Club Am Tegernsee, our sponsorship program currently supports 12 people in need in addition to those receiving family aid. In our view, these individuals have been dealt a particularly difficult hand. They live at the edge of subsistence and have no prospect of improving their circumstances through their own efforts, whether because of age or illness.

As with our family aid, we visit them for personal conversations during our twice-yearly aid trips. This ensures that we continuously keep track of their current circumstances and any changes.

The monthly sponsorship payments are made in cash by Anika Zegheru, our trusted local representative. The sponsorship amount is significantly higher in winter than in summer because people living in extreme poverty can scarcely afford the cost of heating. Sadly, being cold is still part of everyday life for many people in Romania: collecting firewood in the forest requires a permit, which can only be obtained through a process involving extensive bureaucracy, bribes, and travel expenses. Anyone caught without one risks imprisonment.
